Threads Sweeps the Internet: Over 10 Million Users Sign Up within 7 Hours of Release

According to CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Threads, the Twitter competitor app created by Meta (Facebook's parent company), has already racked up over 10 million sign-ups in just a few short hours after becoming live. This is a serious threat to Elon Musk's Twitter, which has received opposition from a number of rivals but hasn't yet been supplanted as the top social media network.

In 100 nations, Threads launched on the Apple and Android app stores and started out ad-free. Popular media organisations and personalities with active accounts on the network already include Shakira, The Washington Post, and Jennifer Lopez. During the debut, Zuckerberg interacted with new users, including by joking around with MMA fighter Jon Jones. Zuckerberg uploaded a Spiderman meme, underlining the parallels between the two sites in a covert nod to Musk.

In describing his vision, Zuckerberg claimed that Twitter hasn't yet fully attained his dream for a public conversation's app with more than 1 billion users. There are currently 200 million daily users of Twitter.
