Naseeruddin Shah on 'The Kerala Story': "I Have No Intention of Watching It"

Renowned actor Naseeruddin Shah recently expressed his thoughts on the film 'The Kerala Story,' stating that he has no plans to watch it.

In a conversation with India Today, Shah discussed the success of the film, which has reportedly collected INR 200 crore domestically.

Shah mentioned several other films such as 'Bheed,' 'Afwaah,' and 'Faraaz,' emphasizing that despite their quality, they failed to attract audiences.

In contrast, 'The Kerala Story' has been drawing crowds, but Shah remains uninterested in viewing it due to the extensive information he has already gathered about the film.

Describing 'The Kerala Story' as a concerning trend, Shah drew a parallel with Nazi Germany. He highlighted the co-optation of filmmakers during Hitler's era, where they were compelled to create films praising the supreme leader and disparaging the Jewish community.

Comparing this historical context to the current situation, Shah expressed concern that a similar inclination is emerging in India. Filmmakers, he noted, are facing pressure to align with the establishment or adopt a neutral stance.

While Shah voiced his apprehension about this dangerous trajectory, he also expressed hope for change. He questioned the sustainability of a climate of hatred, speculating that it would eventually tire itself out.

Shah acknowledged the pervasive nature of this atmosphere but remains optimistic that it will eventually dissipate, although he believes it won't happen anytime soon.
